About EARAZA

The Eurasian Regional Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EARAZA) is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization established in 1994 with the aim of strengthening ties and cooperation between zoos, oceanariums, breeding centres, insectariums and other organizations of the Eurasian region in the field of environmental, educational, scientific and recreational activities. EARAZA was officially founded in 1994 by three zoos: Moscow Zoo (Director – Vladimir Spitsin), Novosibirsk Zoo (Director – Rostislav Shilo) and Seversk Zoo (Director – Vera Selivanova). At the time of its creation, the Association was represented by 18 zoos from six countries, but the number of EARAZA members has increased over time, and now EARAZA includes 94 organizations from 23 countries.

EARAZA's activities are based on the principles of species conservation, sustainable development, environmental responsibility, and maintaining the positive welfare of animals in the care of EARAZA members.

EARAZA is an Association Member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA), which means that all EARAZA members should carry out their activities in accordance with the aims, principles and standards of WAZA.
