The Second Conference “Zoo Design and Projecting”

The Second All-Russia Conference titled “Zoo Design and Projecting” was hosted by the Yuzhny Bird Park "Malinki" (Shakhty, Rostovskaya Oblast) on July 15 through 18. The Conference was attended by more than 60 specialists from the zoos of Russia and Belarus.

The following presentations were made at the Conference:

15. Interaction between People and Animals in Different Cultures. (V.N. Burkova, Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences)

All presentations are available on the “Zoo Projecting and Design” Telegram channel.

Plenary sessions and discussions alternated with visits to completed exhibits (such as “Madagascar Island”) and exhibits under constructions (e.g. “Scavenger Gorge”), as well as with the tours around the Yuzhny Bird Park "Malinki" (https://malinkibirds.ru/) and Loga Park (https://loga.ru/). Besides, the visit of the conference participants to the plant producing frozen rats and mice was organized.

The participants of the conference emphasized the urgent need to pay special attention to animal welfare when designing and constructing enclosures, and a presentation on the assessment of animal welfare with the use of inexpensive means and AI was delivered.

The participants of the Conference expressed their sincere gratitude to Anton Drozdov, the owner of the Malinki Bird Park, and his team for their incredible hospitality and wonderful reception!
