В Астане прошла вторая научно-практическая конференция «Опыт и перспективы развития декоративной и товарной аквакультуры»

The second scientific and practical conference «Experience and prospects for the development of ornamental and commercial aquaculture» was held in Astana
Описание EN:
On April 17-18, 2025, the second scientific and practical conference "Experience and Prospects for the Development of Ornamental and Commercial Aquaculture" was held in Astana, organized by the Ailand Astana Oceanarium (formerly "Duman"). The event brought together experts from Russia, Kazakhstan, Indonesia and other countries.
In addition to the hosts of the event, the Kazakh delegation was represented by employees of the Almaty Zoo and aquaculture professionals. The participants from Russia included specialists from the Moskvarium, the oceanariums of Voronezh, St. Petersburg, the Primorsky Oceanarium on Russky Island, as well as employees of the Kaliningrad Museum of the World Ocean. The conference was attended by the director of the Aquarium Complex Aqua Logo Petr Bakuta and representatives of other suppliers of aquarium fish.
The central figure of the event was Oleg Nikolaevich Yunchis, a leading ichthyopathologist and specialist at the St. Petersburg Oceanarium. He is known for his developments in the field of diagnostics and treatment of fish, including difficult-to-keep shark species. According to the expert, the inhabitants of marine aquariums in closed artificial systems are most vulnerable to various diseases.
The conference participants were greatly impressed by Tatyana Aksyonkina's report on the construction of a new building of the Kaliningrad Museum of the World Ocean, in which Aqua Logo is actively involved. Tatyana presented a film about the current exhibitions of the museum and the new one, which is being prepared for opening, accompanying it with a live commentary, it turned out to be very exciting.
Our report "Kamchatka crab. From fishing to breeding" aroused increased interest among the conference audience. As part of the construction of the scientific and educational center of FEFU on Russky Island, we are planning to create a laboratory for the artificial reproduction of crustaceans. The general designer of the Center approached us and asked to develop a technology for artificial reproduction for its further protection. Currently, the finished design documentation is undergoing an examination.
A notable event was the speech of Natalia Gireva, chief specialist of the department of maintenance of hydrobionts of tropical seas of the Primorsky Oceanarium, who spoke about the breeding of marine organisms.
The organizational aspects of the conference deserve the highest praise: clear transfer, attentive attitude to participants, high-quality organization of coffee breaks and lunches.

Conference «Polar Bear Universe: Effective Cooperation in the Arctic»
Описание EN:
The conference "Universe of the Polar Bear: Effective Cooperation in the Arctic" brought together about 850 participants.
On March 21, the VIII International Scientific and Practical Conference "Universe of the Polar Bear: Effective Cooperation in the Arctic" concluded. The event was held in three cities - Moscow, St. Petersburg and Anadyr - and gathered about 850 participants from 12 countries: Russia, Belarus, Brazil, Egypt, Italy, Kazakhstan, China, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Singapore, the Czech Republic and Uzbekistan.
During the four-day business program, more than 200 reports were presented on a wide range of topics related to the study, conservation and sustainable development of the Arctic.
"The Arctic is a strategically important region for the whole world. Climate change, melting ice, biodiversity conservation - all these and many other issues are important for the future of humanity," said Yury Trutnev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.
"The increased interest in the Arctic is associated with the active development of this strategically important region for our country, the development of the Northern Sea Route, and global climate change. The polar bear is at the center of discussions. Being the largest land predator on the planet, it is also one of the most vulnerable," emphasized Alexander Kozlov, Minister of Natural Resources of Russia, in his welcoming speech to the conference participants.
"It is necessary to preserve the Arctic as a territory of peace, stability and mutually beneficial cooperation. The most important priority remains ensuring a balance between human economic activity and environmental conservation," stressed Svetlana Rodionova, Head of the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resource Usage, in her welcoming speech delivered by Amirhan Amirkhanov, Advisor to the Head of the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resource Usage.
According to Svetlana Akulova, Director General of the Moscow Zoo, since 2018, a human-polar bear conflict prevention group has been operating in the Arctic, which has proven its effectiveness. All conflict animals are successfully returned to their natural habitat without harm to people.
Several sessions at the conference were dedicated to the polar bear: "Polar Bear and Marine Mammals", "Activities of Arctic Protected Areas", "Biodiversity Monitoring", "Bear Patrol" and others. During the discussions, experts shared the most relevant research results on the predator. For example, as part of the study of the Kara subpopulation of polar bears, satellite tagging of 7 polar bears was performed in the summer of 2024, with two males being tagged with ear tags instead of collars for the first time in Russia. Data from these devices are important for assessing the status of the Kara subpopulation of polar bears, which is currently the least studied in the Russian Federation.
On the final day, a session "Zoos, Aquariums and Oceanariums: Role and Participation in Arctic Ecosystem Research" was held, discussing the participation of these institutions in polar bear conservation.

Scientific conference «Ocean in the city 2025» in Moskvarium
Описание EN:
The Moskvarium Center for Oceanography and Marine Biology hosted the international scientific-practical conference "Ocean in the City" for the fifth time, with participation of more than 200 specialists from Russia and other countries.
From February 7 to 9, 2025, Moskvarium held its annual event for professionals in marine biology, terrarium keeping, aquarium keeping and water treatment, which facilitates cooperation between scientists and practitioners, as well as advances science and improves animal care standards.
"The first 'Ocean in the City' was held in 2019 as a small open seminar attended by only 17 people. Today, thanks to active scientific work and cooperation with international organizations, we are already holding the fifth anniversary scientific conference, which featured more than 50 speakers and gathered about 200 guests from Russia, CIS countries and Southeast Asia," said Irina Meintser, Deputy General Director of Moskvarium.
During the three days of the conference, participants discussed the organization of work in oceanariums, zoos and dolphinariums, rehabilitation and veterinary medicine of aquatic animals, as well as educational activities in aquariums.
"This event is particularly significant as we have been conducting joint scientific work with Moskvarium for a long time, and the Center's staff are members of our associations. Thanks to this event, we are able to continuously improve standards and conditions for keeping animals in artificial environments, as well as apply the accumulated experience to the rehabilitation of wildlife," said Tatiana Vershinina, Executive Director of SOZAR and Executive Secretary of EARAZA.
The conference format differed from traditional events - in addition to the lecture part, much attention was paid to practical aspects. Participants were able to attend open training sessions with dolphins and Baikal seals, which allowed them to get a closer look at the training process and interaction with the oceanarium inhabitants.
Moskvarium staff conducted detailed guided tours of the oceanarium and life support systems, allowing participants to get a closer look at how the Center operates from the inside. In addition, discussion clubs and round tables were organized at the venue.
This year, the Moskvarium Center for Oceanography and Marine Biology plans to develop educational activities for younger generations. In April 2025, the event "Ocean in the City. Children" will be held here.
