The program of the course includes both theoretical module that will help refresh the knowledge gained during the course "Zoo Fundamentals" and practical sessions. The course will cover basic concepts of the learning theory, general principles of zoo animal training, effects of training on animal welfare, and the most common behavior shaping techniques. 

At the end of the course, the participants will take tests and present the results of their practical animal training sessions.

On September 14–17, 2026, the Primorsky Aquarium (Branch of the NSCMB FEB RAS) will host an international scientific and practical conference entitled “Ocean Conservation through Education and Research” (OCER-2026). The Conference will be dedicated to the 10^th anniversary оf the Primorsky Aquarium.

 MISSION:

To integrate scientific research, educational programs and engineering solutions through creating a platform for the interaction of cross-disciplinary scientific fields to develop aquariums as centers of knowledge and protection of the World Ocean. 

AIMES:

• To strengthen partnerships and improve coordination between teams of oceanariums, zoos and aquariums at the state and international levels;
• To present and discuss the results of the latest scientific research, engineering solutions, and experience in the management of hydrobionts;
• To promote values ​​and measures for the protection of species diversity;
• To create teams of specialists to work on cross-disciplinary topics and implement joint projects. 

TARGET AUDIENCE:

Biologists studying the diversity of the World Ocean, life support engineers, animal care specialists from oceanariums, aquariums and zoos, and animal trainers. 

The scientific part of the OCER-26's program will include sessions within the following sections:

Section I. Basic research in marine biology.

Section II. Scientific research in public aquariums.

Section III. The welfare of wild animals in human care: ethical aspects.

The Third Conference entitled “Zoo Design and Projecting” will be held in the city of Perm on October 6 through 9, 2026.

The aim of the conference is to enable participants to share experience in the field of the use of modern approaches and advanced technological solutions in designing new zoos and exhibits.

The main topics of the conference will include:

1. Territorial strategic planning (masterplans, regulatory framework).

2. Project management (the structure of interactions within the zoo team and with external contractors).

3. New projects.

4. New facilities.

5. Designing and planning of landscape elements (landscape gardening, water bodies, small architectural forms, etc.).

Dear Colleagues!

You are invited to participate in the Second International Conference “Merman-2026” on the aquarium water treatment and life support systems for the maintenance of aquatic animals. The Conference will take place in the city of Voronezh on October 27–29, 2006; it is dedicated to the 15 th anniversary of the Voronezh Oceanarium. The Conference will be jointly jrganized by the Voronezh Oceanarium, Eurasian Regional Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EARAZA), and Russian Union of Zoos and Aquariums (RUZA).

On October 27, 2026, a training course “Basics of the operation of water treatment and life support systems for dolphinariums and oceanariums” will be held with the support from the COSBA Training and Certification Center. State certificates will be given to the participants upon the completion of the course.

The Conference program will include discussions on the topics and challenges related to the selection of equipment, technologies and methods of treatment and disinfection of water in the water treatment and life support systems at the stages of projecting, building and operation of large aquariums, oceanariums, dolphinariums, and enclosures with pools designed for the maintenance of marine mammals including polar bears, crocodiles and other reptiles, hippos, Eurasian otters and other aquatic animals.

The Conference is aimed at the consolidation of efforts and exchange of results of the research and experience of experts in the field of water treatment and life support systems. The conference serves as a platform for presenting and discussing innovations, currents trends, emerging issues, practical problems and decisions, as well as for establishing business contacts and promoting specialists’ own products.

We invite managers and specialists in operation of water treatment and life support systems designed for aquariums, dolphinariums, and zoo pools for animals; specialists in water treatment and hydrochemistry; aquarium and water pool life support system developers and designers; manufactures and suppliers of equipment and materials for water treatment and life support systems; representatives of specialized research and educational institutions; and other stakeholders to attend the Conference.

The Conference program includes:

• presentations and round-table discussions focused on the operation of life support systems designed for marine and freshwater aquariums, dolphinariums, and pools for aquatic animals;
• exhibition and presentation of the latest equipment for life support, water treatment and water quality control systems;
• visit of the Oceanarium, including a guided tour to life support systems;
• cultural program.

The Conference will be funded out of the participants’ registration fees and contributions of the organizers and sponsors.

Participants will be responsible for their travel and accommodation expenses. All the participants will be accommodated in the partner hotel that will provide a discount for the partipants of the Conference. The First Conference “Merman-2019” (October 2–4, 2019, Sochi) was attended by 62 specialists from 6 countries. The Conference included 19 presentations and 3 round-table discussions.
